Five Local Restaurants and Chefs in the Running for Prestigious James Beard Awards

Feb 20, 2018

Four beloved restaurants and chefs in nearby Asheville — as well as one newcomer in Greenville — have been nominated for the 2018 James Beard Awards, some of America’s most prestigious recognitions awarded to culinarians and restauranteurs.

In Asheville, Chef Katie Button, of Nightbell and Cúrate, and Meherwan Irani, Chai Pani, have both been nominated for Best Chef Southeast. Leah Wong Ashburn of Highland Brewing Co. has been nominated in the Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Professional category, and David Bauer of Farm & Sparrow has been nominated for Outstanding Baker.

Greenville’s The Anchorage, which opened in 2017, has also been nominated among the semifinalists for the Best New Restaurant award. The 2018 James Beard Award winners will be announced Monday, May 7 and we’ll be cheering on our local nominees! Asheville and Greenville’s award-winning culinary scenes — as well as their natural beauty, ample arts and culture opportunities, unique shopping and much more — are part of why we are so proud to these spectacular Southern cities home. Whether dining in Asheville or Greenville, or at one of more than a dozen dining venues within The Cliffs communities, you’re certain to indulge in delicious cuisine touched by the James Beard Awards. Our culinary team boasts a collection of culinarians trained by James Beard Award-winners and renowned chefs, and each of our seven chefs is a celebrated award-winner in their own rights.
