“How can I properly convey my gratitude for such an outstanding ladies’ tournament? You wowed us from the start. Our guests raved about the food throughout the tournament and events. They kept saying, “This is like a men’s member guest — we can’t believe they do this here for the ladies.'”
Member, The Cliffs at Glassy
When you are arguably the premier private golf experience in America, growing the game is in our bloodstream. And so, proudly, our clubs also walk the walk — proudly serving as the home course for the University of North Carolina at Asheville women’s golf team, as well as host of the annual LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Academy, which teaches girls ages 6 – 13 both golf and leadership skills.
It’s how Carrie McClenaghan, the 2nd assistant pro at The Cliffs at Mountain Park describes her passion. “It’s about friendship, and it’s about the adrenaline rush you get after a great shot, and the high fives that keep you coming back.”
Carrie believes that golf is about a lot more than lowering your handicap: “It’s the process of trying to reach the goals you set for yourself and the confidence and discipline you gain as you play.”
A favorite part of her teaching is Ladies’ Day on Tuesdays. She organizes two groups of women: the experienced 18-holers for whom she organizes a variety of team-formatted games, and the 9-holers with whom she plays three days a month. Carrie also organizes the Ladies Playaround at Mountain Park, which puts together teams of women to play our different courses and get to know one another in a spirited setting.
2nd ASSISTANT PRO, MOUNTAIN PARK
Carrie, who grew up just down the road from Mountain Park in Greenville, SC, was introduced to the game by her dad as a seventh grader. By the time she was ready for college, her game was good enough to earn her a scholarship at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Thanks to a recommendation from a member of The Cliffs, she became an assistant-in-training. Not long after, Carrie entered the PGA Apprentice Program and is presently on track to get her membership.
Our golf professionals and wellness staff help members gain the skills, strength, flexibility and balance they need to become their best golfing selves. PGA golf professionals work individually with players to assess their physical ability and build a program to help members improve their physical abilities to play golf optimally. Additionally, The Cliffs offers private and group instruction as well as player development packages to help players improve their game.
