We are thrilled to unveil The Cliffs Insight Series, a speaker symposium series gathering experts from across the region to inform, educate and entertain members across our seven club communities.
“The Insight Series is a collection of hour-long talks designed to delight and enlighten,” says Linda Killion, Insight Series Coordinator. “We are bringing musicians and historians, naturalists, master gardeners, artists, authors and more to The Cliffs to share their insight and expertise with our members.”
While the Insight Series events cover a variety of topics across disciplines and subjects, the goal is to keep all things informative, educational and fun — and the series is already delivering on all fronts.
All Insight Series events are complimentary for members of The Cliffs with events taking place across all seven of our communities. Improvisational Jazz Guitar
Thursday, October 4 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs at Walnut Cove Front Terrace
Musician and Clemson Professor of Jazz Guitar Monty Craig will share his knowledge, love and experiences playing improvisational jazz guitar with The Clemson Faculty Jazz Combo, Berklee College of Music and many professional jazz groups. Monty strives to create melodic and harmonic colors for each individual tune. His musical personality comes across with a touch of modernism, playfulness, and humor.
The Squire of the Dark Corner
Monday, October 8 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs at Mountain Park Cabin
Thursday, November 1 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs at Glassy Ballroom
Who better than The Squire of the Dark Corner himself, Dean Campbell, to give deep insights into this famous, yet infamous, mountainous region in northern Greenville County? Dean Campbell is an author, columnist, lecturer, photographer, storyteller, and tour guide. He knows the Dark Corner well as a native son whose maternal and paternal ancestors came to the area in 1784 and 1832.
Mountain Mist Art Gallery
Thursday, October 11 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs at Keowee Falls Clubhouse
Award winning artists and curators David and Julie Berger will share a gallery display and stories of history, technique and inspiration surrounding their art and other fellow regional artists’ work at Mountain Mist Art Gallery in Cashiers, NC.
The Wonders of Lake Jocasse & Jocassee Gorges
Monday, October 15 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs at Keowee Springs Porch
Learn all about the wonder of the south’s grand mountain-lake wilderness that is Lake Jocassee and Jocassee Gorges. Brooks and Kay Wade, owners and operators of Jocassee Lake Tours, will share their intimate knowledge about the sheer beauty of the area’s waterfalls, rivers, plant diversity, and wildlife.
The History of the South Carolina Flag
Tuesday, October 23 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards Clubhouse
Eric Emerson, Ph.D., Director and State Historic Preservation Officer of the South Carolina Department of Archives & History, will travel from Columbia to share the history and meaning of our state flag.
Mentoring Opportunities in College Athletics
Monday, October 29 – 5:30 – 6:30 pm – The Cliffs Valley Clubhouse
Furman University’s head men’s basketball coach Bob Richey will speak about the ways The Cliffs members can involve themselves in mentoring student athletes and staff at Furman University. Bob Richey is entering his second season as head coach of the Furman men’s basketball team and his eighth as part of the program. In his first season as head coach, Richey guided the Paladins to school record-tying 23-win season that included a school-record 22 regular season victories.
