Announcing Five New Wine Professionals at The Cliffs

Congratulations are in order! Five members of The Cliffs team recently received their Level One Sommelier certifications from the Court of Master Sommeliers.

Bringing The Cliffs’ established team of wine professionals to 14 are Julius Kaiser, Jennifer Strom and Haley Crump of The Cliffs Valley; Chelsea Williams of The Cliffs at Glassy and Jon Benson of The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. These recently-pinned Level One Sommeliers spent many months preparing and traveled to Tampa, Florida to take the Introductory Examination.

The Introductory Course & Exam consists of an intensive two-day class with blind tastings which are led by several Master Sommeliers. The second day ends with a written exam assessing knowledge of not only wine, wine regions, grapes, vintages and producers, but also foreign language, beer, liquor, coffee, tea, cigars, world history, service standards and more.

These five new wine professionals bring additional expertise and enthusiasm to The Cliffs’ already robust wine and culinary experience. Led by Director of Beverage Eric Cooperman, our team of 14 sommeliers develops rotating wine lists, exclusive vintners dinners and tastings, monthly wine clubs, educational symposiums and, of course, are instrumental in The Cliffs WINE + FOOD festival each autumn, a multi-day celebration of delectable food and wine across all seven of The Cliffs communities.
