When day turns into evening, the pathways illuminate throughout the property creating a cozy atmosphere of flickering lights and blazing fires. 2. Holly Jolly Christmas Trolley Tour

Where: The Olde World Christmas Shop

When: November 14, 2022 – December 30, 2022 

Journey through a holiday wonderland on the Holly Jolly Christmas Trolley for a cheerful and entertaining depiction of the Christmas season. Operated by Gray Line Tours, this holly jolly trolley features live music, storytelling, and Christmas carol singing. The walkway passes through Grove Park, Biltmore Village, Montford, and the downtown Asheville area lit with holiday lights and festive decorations. 

3. Polar Express Train

Where: Great Smoky Mountains Railroad 

When: November 10, 2022 – December 31, 2022

All aboard the Polar Express Train! Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains, the picturesque town of Bryson City offers this exciting Christmas tradition every year for all to enjoy. Each Christmas season, more than 90,000 passengers take the hour-long journey as they experience the holiday story while sipping hot chocolate and snacking on cookies. In the end, the star of the train ride, Santa Claus, appears to greet each child and give them a silver sleigh bell, just like in the movie. 

4. National Gingerbread House Competition

Where: The Omni Grove Park Inn

When: November 28, 2022 – January 2, 2023

Enjoy the smell of gingerbread as you stroll through the Omni Grove Park Inn and view the handmade, inventive gingerbread houses competing in the National Gingerbread House Competition. For more than 30 years, contestants from all over the world have come to compete for more than $25,000 in rewards. This Asheville holiday event offers a unique opportunity to spend time with loved ones while also supporting local non-profit organizations. 

5. Winter Wonder Walk

Where: Adventure Center of Asheville

When: December 9, 2022 – December 18, 2022

Walk through a real-life winter wonderland as you travel an outdoor route filled with live characters, bright decorations, and a special guest, Jack Frost. The Winter Wonder Walk is a magical holiday adventure for all ages that unfolds within the pages of the Winterland storybook. In order to find Jack Frost and halt a snowy storm, guests will be taken on a journey across the realm of Winterland, encountering many charming characters and creatures along the way.

6. Holiday Sip & Shop at Grovewood Gallery 

Where: Grovewood Gallery 

When: December 9, 2022 – December 11, 2022

Browse the Grovewood Gallery for a wide selection of one-of-a-kind Christmas presents by participating in the Holiday Sip & Shop. Sample complimentary wine or cider while you discover beautiful merchandise crafted by local artists. All handmade items including ceramic cutlery, wooden bowls and utensils, blown glass, custom jewelry, woolen scarves, and stationary cards will be discounted during this time so be sure to take advantage of these prices. 

7. Winter Lights at the NC Arboretum

Where: The North Carolina Arboretum 

When: November 18, 2022 – December 31, 2022

Within the well-known NC Arboretum, the 434 acres take on a new appearance in the illumination of dazzling holiday lights. Explore the Winter Lights to see exhibits that highlight the Arboretum’s lush surroundings, vibrant native butterflies, and winter wildlife. Especially featured attractions and popular favorites are the Quilt Garden and the dazzling 50-foot tree.
