Family-Friendly Summer Activities for Members of The Cliffs

Kids at The Cliffs: Summer Activities To Do Together

The Cliffs is just as much for the kids as it is for the adults. Here’s how to make a magical summer for your kids at The Cliffs.

1. Kids Camp at The Cliffs

Members of The Cliffs can enroll their little ones in week-long programs held during the summer in all three regions at The Cliffs.

Your children can look forward to golf and tennis lessons, whitewater rafting, rock-sliding, hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, and rappelling. Best of all, the kids get to make their own agenda and try out whichever adventures appeal to them.

For example, the communities of the Lake Region, including The Cliffs at Keowee Springs, The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards, and The Cliffs at Keowee Falls, host Kamp Keowee. But don’t let the name fool you — this program is so much more than just your regular summer camp, it’s an adventure of a lifetime. Staff and residents put on a spectacularly themed experience to let the kids have a week of pure fun amongst themselves.

2. Introduce Your Child to Nature

Introduce your child to the great outdoors and let mother nature teach them important life lessons. Spending time in nature has a number of benefits for growing minds. Outdoor learning offers a more in-depth and healthier learning experience than its digital counterpart. Spending time outdoors also encourages physical activity and creative play, which is vital for your child’s development. As an adult, physical activity and creative play lends to confidence, higher self-esteem, problem-solving skills, healthier personal relationships, and so much more.

Get started by taking your kids on short hikes and point out the various flora and fauna you come across. Pick a flower and count the petals together. Watch as a snail slowly crosses your path. The point of these exercises is to encourage them to slow down and just observe. From an early age, they will then foster a deep appreciation for nature.

3. Golf as a Family

As a member of The Cliffs, you may already enjoy golfing, or at least have an appreciation for the game. Now, your children can also have that same love and respect for the sport that the adults do! Throughout the summer months, The Cliffs hosts various golf clinics to teach your child the basics for building a solid set of playing skills.

If you prefer, you can teach them to play yourself and have them come out on the course with you. The Cliffs at Keowee Springs boasts a Tom Fazio course that is ideal for little ones and new players. The course is made up of a set of three loops of holes so your child doesn’t have to play an entire 18 hole course if they don’t seem interested. As your child advances, you can bring them to one of the other courses at The Cliffs, including The Cliffs at Glassy Golf Course with its scenic 13th hole.

4. Have a Pool Day

Many of our communities at The Cliffs feature  swimming pools that are perfect for playing and swimming in for hours on end. In particular, The Beach Club, located at The Cliffs at Keowee Springs, is outfitted with several pools and winding waterslides. The Beach Club offers food and beverage service to keep the adults happy, too.

Play water games with your family like marco polo or tag and have diving contests. Simple afternoons like these are what your kids will remember the most.

5. Go on a Hunt for the Best Sweet Treat

Find the ultimate sweet treat and taste your way across The Cliffs. After all, the culinary experts here are dedicated to showcasing their passion through incredible dishes made with local ingredients. But that’s not all they can do! Their desserts are just as incredible as any other meal you could get here.

Have you ever tried Chef Eric Fulkerson’s rich chocolate pound cake? It’s a family recipe from the Executive Chef at The Cliffs at Keowee Springs! Make the most of the summer by tasting as many desserts as possible and having a vote to determine favorites.

Extend the challenge beyond The Cliffs and to the nearby towns and cities. By the end of the summer you will have tasted your way across the Carolinas.

6. Sings Songs Around the Campfire

Make lasting memories with your family in your own backyard. Homes at The Cliffs are surrounded by some of the most scenic nature and equipped with stylish outdoor spaces that are perfect for entertaining and, of course, passing the time with your loved ones.

Plan to build a fire in your firepit or start your outdoor fireplace. It sounds simple, but some of the most cherished moments happen around a campfire. Gather supplies for s’mores and show your kids how to toast marshmallows the right way — toasted on the outside and melted in the middle. Use this downtime to slow down and cherish your kids while they are still little.
