1. Start the Day at a Local Coffee Shop

There’s no better way to start the day than with a freshly brewed cup of coffee –– and All In Coffee Shop makes a great first stop in town. The interior invites you to sit down, relax, and plan your next stop. If the weather is nice, they have outdoor seating available for you to enjoy the garden area. 2. Have Brunch at SunnySide Cafe 

If brunch is more your style, head over to SunnySide Cafe for a homegrown meal sure to satisfy any palate. This casual restaurant is the perfect blend of Southern charm and hospitality. Inspired by the owner’s years of travel and love of food, their menu includes items made with locally sourced ingredients. 

3. Visit Clemson University’s Campus 

Once you’ve fueled up, make your way over to Clemson University’s campus for a stroll through the historic grounds. Founded in 1889, the rich heritage is still felt as you make your way through the streets that have seen hundreds of thousands of students over the years. 

One of the most beautiful areas of the campus is the South Carolina botanical gardens located right on the grounds. This 295-acre garden and natural area is home to various plants species and wildlife that you can explore on your visit. 

Given that the university is known for its outstanding athletic department, the campus is always bustling with excitement as their teams are competing. So, be sure to check their schedules and find an event that you’d like to attend. Go Tigers! 

4. Get a Taste of Authentic Carolina BBQ 

If you’re ready for lunch after walking through campus, why not order a plate of barbeque to keep you going? We recommend making your way to The Smokin’ Pig. With traditional ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, and countless sides to choose from, you won’t be disappointed. 

Another tasty option is Esso Club, a Clemson tradition since 1933. This sports bar serves wings, burgers, BBQ sandwiches, and wraps –– just to name a few items on their menu. With the Clemson Tigers playing on the TV, and the students cheering on their home team, it’s an atmosphere that will bring back fond memories of your university days.

5. Dessert at 55 Exchange 

If you’re looking for a sweet treat, 55 Exchange is a student-run business that designs, manufactures, sells, and serves Clemson’s world-famous ice cream and shakes. In recent years, they have been ranked as the top collegiate ice cream in the country and the top 30 milkshake spots in America. They also serve coffee chillers, fresh cold brew coffee, smoothies, and other Clemson products. The best part is that all profits generated support Clemson students and their academic and professional training. So, don’t be shy –– go ahead and order the extra scoop! 

6. Visit Lake Hartwell State Park

After you’ve satisfied your sweet tooth, visit Lake Hartwell State Park to enjoy one of the many recreational activities on the water. Bordering Georgia and South Carolina, this 56,000-acre reservoir is one of the largest recreational areas in the southeastern United States. Here, you can enjoy boating, fishing, paddle boarding, and a variety of other water sports. If you’re not looking to go for a dip, there are also trails and picnic areas by the shore to take in the scenery. If you can, plan to visit during sunset for the most stunning views of the lake. 7. Dinner in Town

After the sun goes down, indulge in some fine dining before heading home. In Clemson, there are a variety of excellent dining options to choose from. For starters, Rick Erwin’s is a popular dinner option serving upscale dishes that honor southern tradition. From shrimp and grits croquettes to oysters, venison filets, and fresh scallops, there is something for everyone here. 

Another wonderful option is Pixie and Bill’s, regarded as Clemson’s original fine-dining restaurant. This classic prime rib, steak, and seafood house has become a tradition among locals. Decorated with antique furniture, original artwork, and fireplaces throughout, the setting is warm and inviting. Owned and operated by the same family as Pixie and Bill’s, Calhoun Corners is another wonderful dining option in downtown Clemson. Their menu includes a wide selection of steaks and seafood paired with the finest sides and desserts.
