1. Black Mountain

This area is home to some of the most scenic trails in the Asheville area. Most notably, Graybeard Trail and Lookout Trail offer expansive views of the mountain range that spans seven states. Throughout the downtown area, you will find the streets lined with shops and boutiques, restaurants, art centers, music venues, and breweries. 2. Travelers Rest

Known affectionately as TR, Travelers Rest is settled at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Greenville, South Carolina. Before the town was established, passerbyers and miners would stop to rest in this area before ascending towards the mountains, giving the town its name.

Since then, Travelers Rest has transformed into an endearing mountain town flourishing with quaint shops, local eateries, and its beloved, signature clock that stands at the entrance of Main Street. Entertainment is easy to come by as the town’s very own, Trailblazer Park, hosts multiple festivities each year surrounded by mountain vistas. 3. Chimney Rock

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge and just 25 miles southeast of Asheville, Chimney Rock showcases stunning views of magnificent mountain scenery. The ancient monolith features a 500-step staircase that allows you to ascend to the very top. From there, you can take in the captivating scenery of Hickory Nut Gorge and other surrounding areas. 

Chimney Rock Village, found at the bottom of the summit, includes a variety of eclectic boutiques and restaurants that you won’t find anywhere else. Located behind the establishments on Main Street is the Rocky Broad Riverwalk, which borders the river with crossings. A local favorite near the riverwalk is Old Rock Cafe which undergoes a holiday revamp each season. During the season, the cafe hosts Breakfast with the Elves and afterwards everyone gathers at the park to watch Santa rappel from the top of the summit. 4. Landrum

At the northernmost point of the Carolina state lines is the small town of Landrum, South Carolina. You can easily go around on foot in the traditional-styled town and explore its downtown district. Historic brick buildings make up its inviting Main Street and are accessible from all the residential communities.

The little village overlooking the mountains has earned a name in the area for its collection of unique antiques and decor. Additionally, Landrum is known for its horse riding as it is close to the Tryon International Equestrian Center. 5. Brevard
