Food and Drink

Greenville is a paradise for food lovers, with more than 600 restaurants (and counting!) featuring cuisine from celebrated chefs and interpretations of flavors from around the world. Greenville also has a thriving craft beer scene with a number of microbreweries around town—and has also nurtured a modern moonshine movement, with many local craft distilleries.

Each year brings a bevy of exciting annual events in Greenville. There’s Artisphere, a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture along the streets of downtown. Euphoria, Greenville’s food and wine festival, draws musicians, celebrities and chefs of Michelin-starred restaurants each summer. And, of course, there’s Fall for Greenville, the city’s annual celebration of autumn, complete with three days of live music, street food, wine and beer gardens and much more.

The rich history of South Carolina comes alive in Greenville’s museums. Explore the Smithsonian-affiliated Upcountry History Museum. Find classical and contemporary art collections at the Museum & Gallery at Bob Jones University and the Greenville County Museum of Art. Discover African-American history and culture at the Greenville Cultural Exchange Center, which includes a research library. Find military artifacts from every American war dating back to the Revolutionary War at the American Legion War Museum.

Galleries and studios

Browse original art from more than 20 artists at Art Crossing at RiverPlace, a collective of art studios in a converted parking garage in downtown Greenville. The city also features many independent galleries showing art from regional and national artists.

Performing arts

With a ballet, chorale, symphony orchestra and many theaters, there is never a shortage of entertainment in Greenville. The Peace Center attracts globally acclaimed performers and speakers—theater performances, Broadway favorites, international orchestras and chorus groups, comedians and dance companies. Local universities, including Furman University and Bob Jones University, also host performances throughout the year.

Musical events

Greenville loves a chance to get outdoors and enjoy music in the open air. Every Friday night from spring to fall, people gather on Main Street after work to listen to live music and welcome the weekend during Greenville Heritage Main Street Fridays as well as on Thursdays during Downtown Alive at NOMA Square. There are also many venues around town that feature musical performances, from rock concerts to symphony orchestras to a cappella.

Clothing, unique home accents, artisan foods, gifts, antiques and more are on hand in Greenville’s specialty retail shops, from Brooks Brothers to bohemian boutiques. Greenville also features one of South Carolina's largest shopping malls, with favorite upscale retail chains, as well as factory shops for popular brands.

Greenville locals are devoted to their professional sports teams. Greenville Drive baseball fans pack Fluor Field—a stadium modeled after Boston's Fenway Park that even has a scaled down Green Monster—to root for the Red Sox Class A affiliates playing baseball as thrilling as the major leagues. Though you wouldn't think of ice and South Carolina together, professional ice hockey draws die-hard fans of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits playing at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville.

Kids' Activities

Greenville offers so many ways to keep the kids happy and entertained. Make the area's exceptionally starry skies even more thrilling by checking out the planetarium shows at the Roper Mountain Science Center. Meet elephants, giraffes, giant tortoises and other ambassadors of wildlife from around the world at the Greenville Zoo. Climb, sense, play and create at the Children's Museum of the Upstate. Or simply go on a mouse hunt — finding the bronze mice hidden up and down Greenville's Main Street as tribute to the children's book Mice on Main.
