7 Water Sports to Enjoy on Lake Keowee

The Top Water Sports on Lake Keowee

A day exploring Lake Keowee is good for the body, mind and soul. Being out on the water and taking in the striking views of beautiful Upstate South Carolina leads to unforgettable memories.

Whether you want to be in the water all day, or just get your toes wet, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Let’s take a closer look at what thrilling water sports you can take part in the next time you’re out on Lake Keowee.

1. Swimming

Summer is for swimming, and what better way to enjoy the water than with the Carolina mountains as the backdrop? There are many private swimming areas where you can take a dip and cool off from the heat. Trust us, every member of the family will enjoy making a splash on Lake Keowee –– maybe even your four-legged friend, too.

2. Fishing

If you’re looking for a quiet way to appreciate the scenic views of the lake, find a cove to cast your rod and test your luck at fishing. These waters are home to all four black bass species such as the Spotted Bass, Redeye Bass, and both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. You may also find Crappie, Catfish and Bluegill fish swimming in Lake Keowee.

3. Paddle Boarding

Paddle boarding is a great way to enjoy the lake while getting your daily workout in. This sport consists of standing on a paddleboard, similar to that of a surfboard while paddling to propel yourself through the water. It may take a little getting used to, but once you’ve found your balance, you won’t want to stop.

4. Kayaking

Another one of the many water sports you can participate in to stay active is kayaking. With more than 300 miles of shoreline along Lake Keowee, there’s plenty to explore. You can either go out on the lake solo, or grab a friend and share the experience in a tandem kayak.

5. Boating

Whether you’re going out on a pontoon boat for a serene sunset cruise or taking a tow boat out for more extreme water sports, Lake Keowee is the perfect place to enjoy any type of boating. The lake’s size makes boating a great way to easily move around the water, and a fun water sports the family can take advantage of year-round.

6. Jet Skiing

If you’re searching for something to get your adrenaline pumping, you should consider jet skiing on Lake Keowee. Jet skiing is a great way to enjoy the water and take in the mountain views that surround the lake. Jet skis can go quite fast, often around 50 mph, so be sure to hold on tight!

7. Wakeboarding

Another adrenaline-pumping activity to try is wakeboarding. This physically-demanding water sport requires balance, coordination and strength. Once you get the hang of it, you can put your skills to the test with impressive jumps and other tricks. If wakeboarding is too difficult, give tubing a try for a similar, less demanding experience.
