The Partnership at Walnut Cove

Community Meets Competition

Members and associates joined forces to compete in the coveted Partnership Classic–a nine-hole scramble tournament with four-person teams. Over 50 participants took to the course on a perfectly sunny Monday afternoon to duke it out for bragging rights over the next year.

It was a close competition, with the team of members Mark Stejbach and Dr. Paul Keckley, along with assistant golf professional Jake McNulty and cart attendant Brycen Beard, taking the crown.

An associate who did much of his work behind the scenes, facilities maintenance technician David Bryson, recently retired after nearly a decade of service at The Cliffs, including seven years at Walnut Cove. David returned to visit his former coworkers and participate in The Partnership–one of his favorite events hosted at the Club. Mere weeks after celebrating David’s final day at Walnut Cove, he came back for one more great memory–he stuck his Hole No. 2 tee shot on the narrow green well below the tee boxes within 12 feet, winning the Closest to the Pin challenge for the associates.

The Partnership Classic allows members and associates to enjoy a day of fun on the course while getting to know each other better. In many cases, it also allows staff who only spend a little bit of time among the members to interact. Following play, the participants gathered on the Turnhouse Terrace to enjoy a meal together in front of the picturesque backdrop offered by the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
