7 Ways to Live an Active Mountain Lifestyle in 2021

Mountain Living: 7 Ways to Live an Active Mountain Lifestyle

A new year can be just the fresh start you need to start living a more active mountain lifestyle. Here at The Cliffs, we want to motivate you to try new activities that spark creativity, improve your quality of life, and promote your overall well-being.

Continue reading to learn about seven ways you can stay both physically and socially active at The Cliffs.

1. Lace-up Your Hiking Boots

Hiking is known to be one of the most beneficial activities for the mind and body. Taking time out of your day to go for a walk in nature can be just what you need to clear your mind and improve your mood.

In the Carolina mountains, there are hundreds of miles of scenic hiking trails that lead to some of the most spectacular viewpoints in the area. Within our communities at The Cliffs, we have numerous private walking and hiking trails where you can explore acres of lush forests that are solely for our members, creating an even more serene and natural experience.

2. Hit The Cycling Trails

For a more heart-pumping workout, race through the trails on your mountain bike. Similar to our hiking trails, there are a number of different cycling trail options in the Blue Ridge Mountains. So whether you are a novice rider or a more experienced cyclist, you can find the perfect trail to challenge yourself as you strive to live an active mountain lifestyle.

3. Grab Your Racquet

If you’re looking for a new sport to help you stay fit and meet new people, tennis is a great way to do both as it is just as social as it is active! Joining a league to participate in friendly competition can make exercising feel enjoyable again, rather than something you have to do.

Whether you’re a beginner or a highly experienced player, our tennis community at The Cliffs is always looking for new players to join in on the fun. Our facilities consist of 22 courts, 16 of which are premier Har-Tru clay courts. Many of which are lit, making them perfect for night-time play. Another up-and-coming racquet sport to participate in at The Cliffs is pickleball, which combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Pickleball courts can be found in The Lake Region at Keowee Falls and in The Mountain Region at Glassy and Valley

4. Play a Round of Golf

Walking the fairways of our world-class courses can help you stay healthy while enjoying the sport you love. If you’re looking to make the most of your time on the green and improve your game, consider walking the course instead of taking a golf cart. By carrying the golf clubs and walking the 18-holes, you can greatly improve your cardiovascular health and strength over time.

At The Cliffs, members have access to not one, but seven premier golf courses, each designed to accentuate the authentic landscape of the Carolina mountains. Top golf courses architects, along with some of the greatest players the game has ever seen, put their mark on each design —— creating a golf experience that is simply unrivaled. From mountain-top golf, to lake-side play, each course will present players with new challenges and promote an active mountain lifestyle.

5. Try a New Water Sport

With so many ways to enjoy the water, lake living is the paradigm of an active lifestyle. From swimming to kayaking, paddleboarding to wakeboarding, or boating, there is a water sport for everyone by the lake. Even fishing can help you live an active mountain lifestyle, while allowing you to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

However you choose to spend your time on the water, there are many health benefits that will positively impact your life. With cleaner air and a less stressful environment, you can improve your overall mood and well-being by living by a lake.

Our Outdoor Pursuits watersports program at The Cliffs can guide you as you look to try new water sports on Lake Keowee in Upstate South Carolina. Through their expertise, you will learn how to properly use the equipment so you can safely experience the thrill of being out on the water.

6. Start a New Training Program

If you’re tired of doing the same exercises day in and day out, or simply don’t know where to start, finding a new training program could be just what you need to create a routine. You may want to consider investing in a personal trainer or sign up for a group fitness class to get the ball rolling.

Our facilities at The Cliffs include seven wellness centers, where club members have access to state of the art exercise equipment, along with expert trainers to ensure proper form and create customized training programs for your needs. There are also guided group classes, such as spinning or yoga, that can make the experience more enjoyable for some.

7. Join a Private Social Club

Staying socially active is just as important when living a healthy lifestyle. This year, look to join a social club that allows you to partake in your favorite hobbies, all while meeting others who share your same passions. At The Cliffs, members have hundreds of private social clubs to choose from –– so you’ll be sure to find a couple that pique your interest.
