“Walnut Cove provides an extraordinary natural setting for golf. Areas on this course make you feel as if you are playing through a national forest.”
– Jack Nicklaus
The Nicklaus name has long been associated with greatness on the golf course. Nicknamed "the Golden Bear," Jack Nicklaus is considered by many to be the greatest professional golfer, having won 18 major championships in his 25-year career. Nicklaus is also an accomplished course designer and has been honored with every significant award that recognizes excellence in course design and development.
One trademark of a Nicklaus Signature Design is to masterfully weave golf course design with the residential component of a project. When creating both of our Jack Nicklaus Design golf courses, at Walnut Cove and Keowee Falls, Jack worked closely with The Cliffs to enhance the natural environment and create courses both challenging and enjoyable for players of all levels.
For nearly a decade, Walnut Cove has hosted the Walnut Cup, one of the premier tournaments at The Cliffs. The competition is open to men and women, as well as golfers of all ages and abilities. With a different theme each year, the Walnut Cup tradition is to host parties in the week leading up to the competition, starting with a Pairings Party to hand out uniforms and "Trash Talk Week" filled with gatherings where teams can have fun fueling the flames of competition. The winning teams get bragging rights for the year.
Home base at Walnut Cove is the Club Village. The 12,000-square-foot, Tudor-style Turnhouse features fine dining in the restaurant and casual fare in the tavern, a board room, a wine room and wine lockers, and a cozy, English-style tavern. Across from the clubhouse is the Golf House, which features the pro shop, a mixed lounge, Towers bar, dining room and terrace. Members enjoy barbecues on the terrace and Tunes on the Terrace with local musicians and hors d’oeuvres. The terrace is a popular venue for weddings and parties.
